History

1988 The Paramount Theatre was named to National Register of Historic Places 1990 Austin Area Commission for the Arts, was formed and restoration of the Historic Paramount Theatre began. A complete history can be found at the website. The AACA continues to expand its reach as a non profit organization dedicated to identify, engage, and support the development and advancement of diverse arts, entertainment, and cultural activities that benefit people in Austin and the surrounding area.

The Austin Area Commission for the Arts (AACA) envisions a vibrant and successful community enriched by diverse arts, entertainment, and cultural activities. We support the development and advancement of diverse arts, entertainment, and cultural activities that benefit people in Austin and the surrounding area. The two major programs are the Historic Paramount Theatre and the Austin ArtWorks Festival. By the mid-August 2014 the third program will be the opening of the Austin ArtWorks Center, a space for our creative community to learn, create, display, and perform.
