Drain Commissioner Office

The Genesee County Drain Commissioner, currently led by Jeffrey Wright, is dedicated to the conservation and maintenance of natural areas, agricultural lands, and urban redevelopment efforts throughout the region. The Surface Water Management Division focuses on reducing water resource impairment from stormwater runoff while addressing flooding issues and improving drainage systems.

With over 1400 established drainage districts, the Division also constructs and maintains lake level controls for local rivers and water bodies. Acting as the county's designated agency for stormwater management, the Drain Commissioner coordinates watershed management efforts and oversees water supply and wastewater collection and treatment within Genesee County.
