Since 1979, the Boston Private Industry Council has established partnerships with leaders from education, labor, higher education, community and government. The PIC connects youth and adults with education and employment opportunities, which prepares them to meet demand of future employment. Founded by William Edgerly, the organization has served two major systemic initiatives -- the Boston Compact and Boston s Workforce Investment Board. Over the years, a number of specialized programs have been developed to assist youth in finding summer jobs. The PIC has also developed its capacity to serve adults in finding and retaining jobs by upgrading their skill. A 12-member board of directors governs the organization.

The organization offers asset and wealth accumulation, public funding, computer literacy, racial profiling and transportation services. The Urban League of Eastern Massachusetts is affiliated with the National Urban League, which is one of the largest community-based organizations that provide advocacy and research services throughout the world. It provides health development services and also offers educational programs for youths. The agency provides job training and placement services and advocacy activities for adults and individuals. It has a staff of trained and certified professionals that focuses on academic, social and emotional development of children, parents and family members.
