The Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services promotes recovery-oriented treatment services for mental illnesses. It offers more than 55 community-based substance abuse prevention programs and is administered by the government of the State of Connecticut. The department provides support programs for individuals with HIV/AIDS, people in the criminal justice system and pregnant women suffering from substance abuse. It also serves individuals with gambling addictions, traumatic brain injuries and hearing impairments. The department offers residential detoxification, testing, referral, chemical maintenance, case management, partial hospitalization, outpatient, long-term care and rehabilitation, coping and alternative therapy, and intensive and intermediate residential services.
