Shaun Michael Kunisaki, MD

Dr. Maria M. Oliva-Hemker is the Stermer Family Professor of Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease and Professor of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include gastrointestinal diseases, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and pediatric gastroenterology. She serves as the director of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition at the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. In 2021 Dr. Oliva-Hemker was named Vice Dean for Faculty.Dr. Oliva-Hemker received her M.D. from Johns Hopkins. She completed her residency in pediatrics followed by a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Johns Hopkins. She joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 1993.In 2008, Dr. Oliva-Hemker was appointed director of the Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition. Since taking on that leadership role, she has tripled the number of faculty members and dramatically expanded the academic clinical practice while also enhancing strong research and education programs. The division is highly ranked among the top programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report.In 1998, she launched the Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) Center at Johns Hopkins, which specializes in the evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of hundreds of children and teens with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis from all over the world. She is the inaugural recipient of the Stermer Family Professorship in Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Dr. Oliva-Hemker is an active clinical researcher who has co-authored more than 100 articles and book chapters and has given more than 100 invited talks nationally and internationally. She has served in leadership positions in multiple organizations including the North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Subboard of Pediatric Gastroenterology of the American Board of Pediatrics, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation Board of Trustees and the Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition. She is editor-in-chief of the book Your Child with Inflammatory Bowel Disease: A Family Guide for Caregiving (JHU Press).Her clinical practice focuses on inflammatory intestinal disorders such as IBD, autoimmune enteropathy, celiac disease and eosinophilic gastroenteritis. She established fecal microbiota transplantation at Hopkins for children with recurrent C. difficile infection. Dr. Oliva-Hemker is highly respected among her peers and provides second opinions for patients referred to her from throughout the United States. She actively teaches medical students, residents, and fellows. In addition to her outpatient clinics she performs a variety of endoscopic procedures and attends on the inpatient and consultation pediatric gastroenterology services. Dr. Oliva-Hemker has been named among "America's Top Doctors" by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. for more than 20 years and is included in Marquis' "Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare." She has been repeatedly named a Baltimore "Top Doc" by peer physicians and was on the cover of Baltimore Magazine's 2013 Top Doc issue. She has received a U.S. News & World Report "Top Doctor" designation for being in the top 1% of pediatric gastroenterologists in the nation. Dr. Oliva-Hemker was the recipient of the Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Maryland/Southern Delaware Chapter of the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation.

Dr. Anna L. Grossberg is an Assistant Professor of Dermatology and Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She specializes in Pediatric Dermatology. Dr. Grossberg is the Director of the Division of Pediatric Dermatology, as well as the Director of the Dermatology Residency Program and the Pediatric Dermatology Fellowship Program at Johns Hopkins.Dr. Grossberg graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University, and then completed her medical training at the University of California Los Angeles, where she graduated as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honors Society. She completed her Dermatology residency training at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, where she served as Chief Resident. She then completed her fellowship in Pediatric Dermatology at Johns Hopkins University and has been on faculty at Johns Hopkins since that time.Her interests within Pediatric Dermatology include management of pigmented skin lesions such as moles (nevi) and vascular lesions such as hemangiomas, port wine stains, and other complex vascular malformations and birthmarks. She also specializes in the laser and procedural management of these birthmarks, including pulsed dye laser for port wine stains and other types of birthmarks. Additionally, she has expertise in the management of acne, eczema, psoriasis, autoimmune skin disease, hair and nail disease, and other skin conditions in the pediatric population.She has been an invited lecturer to dermatologists as well as pediatricians and family practitioners on various topics within the field of pediatric and general dermatology, and has published several peer-reviewed articles in the field as well.

Dr. Meredith Atkinson is an associate professor of pediatrics in the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She provides care for children with kidney problems of any type, including patients on dialysis; patients with proteinuria, hematuria and chronic kidney disease; and kidney transplant. Dr. Atkinson's clinical research interests focus on chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease in children. Her specific interests include mechanisms and treatment of anemia in chronic kidney disease and racial disparities in patient outcomes. She is the recipient of numerous research grants and awards, including a K23 Patient Oriented Research award from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases/NIH, and young investigator grants from the National Kidney Foundation, the National Kidney Foundation of Maryland, the Thrasher Research Fund and Amgen Inc. She is currently the PI of the Renal Anhydramnios Fetal Therapy (RAFT) trial. She received her undergraduate degree in biology from Mount Holyoke College. She earned her M.D. from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. She completed a residency in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins, followed by a fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Hopkins, completed in June 2007. During her fellowship training, Dr. Atkinson received a master’s degree in epidemiology from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Atkinson joined the Johns Hopkins faculty in 2007. Dr. Atkinson was elected to the Society for Pediatric Research in 2014. She is a member of several professional organizations including the American Society of Nephrology, and is the president of the American Society of Pediatric Nephrology for 2024-2026.
