Hemagen manufactures and markets three major product lines, including more than 100 assays cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Hemagen Diagnostics produces diagnostic products in user-friendly formats. The company produces the Analyst bench top chemistry system, the Virgo line of immunofluorescence, ELISA and hemmagglutination assays and Raichem chemistry and immunoassay reagents used with a variety of automated chemistry analyzers in hospital and reference laboratories. In the United States, the company sells its products directly to physicians, veterinarians, clinical laboratories and blood banks and on a private-label basis through multinational distributors of medical supplies. Internationally, the company sells its products primarily through distributors. Hemagen Diagnostics is based in Columbus, Md., where it employs more than 40 individuals. In 1993, the company became publicly traded.
