Dr. Schwartz is a Professor in the Department of Environmental Health Sciences in the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and Associate Chair of the department. He is jointly appointed in the Department of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health and in the Department of Medicine in the School of Medicine. He served as Director of the Division of Occupational and Environmental Health from 1996 to 2006 and as Director of the Occupational and Environmental Medicine Residency from 1993 to 1998. Dr. Schwartz received a B.S. degree in chemistry from Tufts University in 1979; an M.D. degree from Northwestern University Medical School in 1984; and an M.S. degree in clinical epidemiology from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1989. He completed a residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania from 1984 to 1987, and then was a Mellon Foundation Scholar in Clinical Epidemiology and a fellow in General Medicine there from 1987 to 1989. He completed a fellowship in occupational and environmental medicine from 1989 to 1990 at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health, then joined the faculty there as an Assistant Professor in July 1990. Dr. Schwartz evaluates patients with concerns about the health effects of chemicals from workplace or environmental exposures. He has extensive experience in clinical toxicology, work-relatedness determinations, and other aspects of clinical occupational and environmental medicine.
