Nicole Schechter, PsyD

Anna V. Agranovich, Ph.D., ABPP, is a rehabilitation neuropsychologist at the Johns Hopkins outpatient brain injury rehabilitation program. She offers neuropsychological evaluations and interventions to adults with neurocognitive dysfunctions due to acquired brain injury, stroke and other complex medical conditions involving the central nervous system. Her holistic treatment approach focuses on community reintegration and active life participation, and incorporates evidence-based therapies along with positive psychology and the practice of mindfulness. Dr. Agranovich is bilingual in English and Russian and has contributed to adaptations of cognitive tests for Russian speakers. She has written multiple book chapters and research papers on cultural differences in neuropsychological test performance. More recently, she has been exploring application of mindfulness-based treatment approaches in neurological rehabilitation.

Nicolette Carnahan, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation who specializes in working with people who have chronic health conditions and disability. She sees patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, with specific interest in working with people with spinal cord injury/dysfunction or amputation.Dr. Carnahan obtained her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from American University in Washington, D.C. She completed an internship in health psychology at the Central Virginia VA Healthcare System in Richmond, followed by a fellowship in rehabilitation psychology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.Dr. Carnahan’s research focuses on exploring the connection between physical and mental health conditions and how to harness this information to improve treatment. Her work has examined the psychological effects associated with conditions including chronic pain, traumatic brain injury, COVID-19 and cancer. Her research has also tested how to improve mental health outcomes by using behavioral and trauma-informed interventions.

Kathleen Bechtold, Ph.D., ABPP, (formerly Kortte) is an Associate Professor of physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She specializes in the rehabilitation needs of patients post brain injury or brain illness.Dr. Bechtold earned her Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology and rehabilitation psychology at Johns Hopkins. Patients can be referred to Dr. Bechtold for cognitive dysfunction, impairment or decline; emotional management and adjustment to medical issues related to the brain; fatigue management from brain injury or illness; cognitive rehabilitation; neuropsychological evaluation and diagnosis related to brain injury or illness.Dr. Bechtold is an active researcher focused on understanding the effects of traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury on behavior and the recovery process (both facilitators and barriers to that process) from such injuries. She has authored over 50 peer-reviewed scientific papers. She is a member of several professional organizations, including the American Psychological Association, the International Neuropsychological Society, and the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine, and the International Brain Injury Association.
