Dr. Michael A. Carducci is the AEGON Professor in Prostate Cancer Research at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He serves as the Vice Chair of Solid Tumor Oncology in the Department of Oncology. Dr. Carducci has an expertise in various types of cancer including prostate, kidney, and testicular. He also has an expertise in clinical trials, pain and palliative care for oncology, urological oncology, urology and medical oncology. A graduate of Georgetown University, Dr. Carducci received his medical degree with high distinction from Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed an internal medicine internship, residency and chief residency at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. He went on to complete medical oncology and research fellowships at the Johns Hopkins Oncology Center at Johns Hopkins Hospital. He was promoted to Professor of Oncology and Urology in 2008 and installed into the inaugural AEGON Professorship in Prostate Cancer Research in 2009. He served as Co-Director of the GU Oncology program until 2013. In 2013, he assumed the leadership role of Associate Director for Clinical Research until being named Vice-Chair of Solid Tumor Oncology in 2024. A fellow of the American College of Physicians and a fellow of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, Dr. Carducci has received peer-reviewed funding for his clinical research from the National Cancer Institute, Department of Defense, and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Mentorship of students, fellows, and junior faculty has been another focus of Dr. Carducci’s career in medicine, receiving numerous teaching awards. Dr. Carducci received the Michaele Christian Award and Lectureship for Oncology Drug Development at the National Cancer Institute in 2011. He chaired the Genitourinary Oncology Committee of ECOG-ACRIN from 2011-2024. In this role, he served on the GU Steering Committee for the NCI. Dr. Carducci is a member of the Investigational Drug Steering Committee for the NCI, and chaired that Committee for four years. He served as Associate Editor for GU Cancers for the Journal of Clinical Oncology from 2013-2024. Overall, his clinical research focus is on the development and evaluation of new therapies for urologic cancers. Incorporation of pharmacodynamics, novel biomarkers, and targeted imaging has been key elements of many of the trials led by Dr. Carducci. To complete these studies, Dr. Carducci facilitates and brings together a multidisciplinary team from urologists, radiation oncologists, pathologists, biostatisticians, and medical oncologists. Other areas of interest include palliative and end of life care, survivorship, and use of patient reported outcomes in clinical research and care. Dr. Jacobs is the Division Chief of the Division of Breast Cancer Surgery. She also established the Johns Hopkins Medicine Breast Center at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Centerl in Columbia. Dr. Jacobs sees patients at both The Johns Hopkins Hospital and at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. As division chief of breast cancer surgery, Dr. Jacobs leads an expert team of 9 surgeons located at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore; Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center; Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C.; and Suburban Hospital in Bethesda. She has also initiated new clinics at Johns Hopkins Health Care & Surgery Center - Green Spring Station in Lutherville; Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, and the Skip Viragh Outpatient Center Building in Baltimore. Dr. Jacobs is committed to providing excellent, comprehensive, and patient-centered breast cancer care throughout Johns Hopkins Medicine through close collaboration with oncology, plastic surgery, nursing, rehabilitation medicine, and genetic services. Additionally, Dr. Jacobs has a clinical interest in the treatment of early stage melanoma. She works closely with dermatologists and medical oncologists at Johns Hopkins University and Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center to improve awareness and care of melanoma patients by participating in educational programs and clinical research trials. She has also launched research programs in lymphedema and oncoplastic surgery to increase the number of women eligible for breast prevention by combining lumpectomy with plastic surgery techniques to reshape the breast. In addition, Dr. Jacobs is the surgery representative to the National Clinical Trials Network for the Johns Hopkins Executive Committee and the institutional surgery representative to the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium. She serves as the Chair of the Cancer Committee at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center, which establishes both programmatic and quality improvement goals for cancer care across the health system on a yearly basis. Dr. Mark Yarchoan is a physician–scientist based in Baltimore who specializes in the treatment and study of gastrointestinal cancers, with a particular focus on liver malignancies, including hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA). He received his undergraduate degree from Amherst College and his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. He completed his residency in internal medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a fellowship in medical oncology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, where he joined the faculty in 2018. Dr. Yarchoan leads a research laboratory dedicated to developing novel immunotherapies for liver cancers. His translational research program integrates analyses of clinical trial biospecimens with preclinical modeling to identify and overcome barriers to effective antitumor immunity. A major focus of his work is the development of therapeutic cancer vaccines for hepatobiliary malignancies. He serves as Principal Investigator on multiple clinical trials for hepatobiliary cancers, contributes to international guideline committees for liver cancer, and is a member of the Johns Hopkins Graduate Training Programs in Cellular and Molecular Medicine and Immunology. Dr. Yarchoan’s contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including the ASCO Young Investigator Award, the Conquer Cancer Foundation Career Development Award, the Mark R. Clements Award from the Cholangiocarcinoma Foundation, and the Blue Faery Award for Excellence in Liver Cancer Research.
