The Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute, established in 1975, is affiliated with the University of Maryland. Headquartered in College Park, Md., it is the state's fire and emergency service training agency. The institute plans, researches, develops and delivers programs to emergency service providers to protect life, environment and property. It offers a variety of training programs, such as emergency service training, government and industry training, terrorism response training, and defense training. The organization comprises five divisions, including administrative, field operations, development, logistic support and special programs divisions. The institute has locations in western maryland, north central, northeast, upper shore, lower shore, and southern maryland.
