Joseph C. Murray, M.D., Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor of Oncology at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer at Johns Hopkins in the Upper Aerodigestive Cancer Division (UAD). He is Co-Director of the Lung Cancer Precision Medicine Center of Excellence (PMCOE) and directs the UAD Immunotherapy Database.Dr. Murray received his undergraduate degree in Molecular Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley in 2003. After working in the biotechnology industry, he went on to receive his medical and graduate degree in Interdisciplinary Tumor Biology at Georgetown University School of Medicine in 2015. After completing internship and residency in the Osler Medical Residency Training Program at Johns Hopkins Hospital, he remained at Johns Hopkins to complete his fellowship in Medical Oncology in the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center.Dr. Murray conducts translational research in cancer genomics, liquid biopsy, and immunology in non-small cell lung cancer. He also has expertise in antibody-based immunotherapy, molecular and cell biology, and bioinformatics. He integrates research through the Lung Cancer PMCOE and UAD Immunotherapy Database to conduct observational clinical studies in real-world populations of patients with thoracic cancer. He cares for patients primarily at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Bayview Medical Center.

Richard Battafarano, M.D., Ph.D., joins the Johns Hopkins Department of Surgery as director of the Division of General Thoracic Surgery and the first regional director of general thoracic surgery. He comes to Johns Hopkins from University of Maryland Medical System, where he was chief of the Division of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Battafarano specializes in the treatment of benign and malignant diseases and lesions of the chest, including minimally invasive operations such as video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for lung and esophageal cancers. He also has a special interest in treating Barrett's esophagus, emphysema, mesothelioma and paraesophageal hernias. The focus of Dr. Battafarano's basic and translational research includes outcomes in the surgical management of early stage lung cancer patients with neuroendocrine histology, optimal management of lung cancer patients with mediastinal lymph node metastases, and the effect of survivin overexpression in the development of esophageal cancer. Dr. Battafarano sees patients at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Johns Hopkins Health Care & Surgery Centers at Green Spring Station and at White Marsh. Dr. Shruti Chaturvedi is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins. She received her medical degree from Maulana Azad Medical College, University of Delhi, India. She then completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH, and a fellowship in Hematology and Oncology at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. She has additionally obtained a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) degree from Vanderbilt University.Dr. Chaturvedi specializes in the care of adults with non-malignant hematologic disorders including thrombocytopenic purpura, atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, antiphospholpiid syndrome, immune thrombocytopenia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, thrombotic, other bleeding and clotting disorders, and anemias. Her research is focused on improving the care of patients with thrombotic microangiopathies with a focus on long term sequelae, and the role of complement in thrombotic disorders such as the antiphospholipid syndrome.
