Jeff Trost, MD

Dr. Mejia is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Her areas of clinical expertise include chronic and acute kidney disease, and kidney and pancreas transplantation. Dr. Mejia earned her M.D. from the University of the Philippines. She completed her residency at the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital. She completed her General Nephrology Fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia where she served as chief fellow. She then pursued a fellowship in Transplant Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University after which she joined as faculty.

Laryngologist Simon Best specializes in voice and airway disorders, including the comprehensive care of professional voice-users and performers. He treats patients diagnosed with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis (RRP), vocal cord paralysis, laryngeal cancer, precancerous vocal cord dysplasia, benign laryngeal lesions (polyps, cysts, nodules), and laryngeal and tracheal stenosis. He has expertise in the operative management of vocal cord disorders, including Blue Light laser surgery and office-based management of vocal cord papilloma, dysplasia and vocal cord paralysis. Dr. Best earned a medical degree from the Yale School of Medicine and completed residency training in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He undertook fellowship training in laryngology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Best has a particular clinical and research interest in recurrent respiratory papillomatosis and sees patients from across the country for specialized care for this disorder. He offers operative and office-based laser for papilloma, utilizing the Blue Light laser, which allows for precise excision of papilloma while preserving underlying vocal function. Dr. Best is also a pioneer in the adjuvant use of bevacizumab for RRP, helping many patients break the cycle of repeated surgeries. The Best Laboratory studies RRP and the development of novel immunotherapies to target the underlying viral infection. This research is conducted in collaboration with the head and neck cancer and cervical cancer research groups at Johns Hopkins, which also study human papillomavirus-related diseases. In addition, Johns Hopkins is a site for ongoing clinical trials in DNA immunotherapy, the goal of which is to eliminate the causative viral infection that leads to RRP.

Dr. Andrew J. Cohen is an Associate Professor of Urology at Johns Hopkins. He serves as the Division Director of Benign Urology and Director of Advanced Practice Providers at the Johns Hopkins Brady Urological Institute. He has a robust clinical practice focusing on complex genitourinary reconstruction. In particular, he has interest in the management of erectile dysfunction, urinary incontinence, stricture diseases of the urinary system, peyronie's disease, genital skin conditions, buried penis, urinary diversion, and other benign urologic conditions. He has extensive experience in robotic surgery. He also focuses on issues pertinent to cancer survivorship in men. He is well equipped to perform novel minimally invasive procedures such as endoscopic urethroplasty and robotic buccal ureteroplasty. He has an extensive research portfolio, with particular concentration in outcomes and safety research. Dr. Cohen received dual B.S. degrees summa cum laude from the University of Florida in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, followed by an MD from the University of Chicago where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. His urologic training was pursued at the University of Chicago. Furthermore, he completed a fellowship in Genitourinary Reconstruction and Trauma at the University of California, San Francisco. Among many honors, he was invited to join the Trauma and Urologic Reconstructive Network of Surgeons in 2025. He was a also a recipient of the 'Rising Star' Award from the Society of Genitouinary Reconstructive Surgeons in 2025.
