Emerson Tan Que, MD - The Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute-Bethesda

Courtney L. Kraus, M.D., is Knights Templar Eye Foundation Professor of Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins Medicine. Dr. Kraus specializes in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus, including amblyopia (lazy eye), with a particular interest in pediatric cataract and corneal diseases. She has enjoyed participating in surgical mission trips to underserved areas in the developing world. Dr. Kraus received her medical degree from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where she also completed her residency in ophthalmology after an internship in internal medicine at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in Creve Coeur, Missouri. She then completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the Storm Eye Institute at The Medical University of South Carolina.

Nicholas R. Mahoney, M.D., is an Oculoplastic surgeon at the Wilmer Eye Institute's locations in Bethesda and Baltimore, Maryland. He is the chief of Wilmer's Oculoplastics Division. Dr. Mahoney specializes in surgery of the tissue surrounding the eyes, including the eyelids, eye socket (orbit) and tear drainage system. This includes removal of benign and malignant lesions of the eyelid and eye socket, repair of eyelid and eye socket trauma, reconstruction of the tear ducts and surgery for correcting abnormal eyelid position. Eyelid surgeries include surgeries for drooping eyelids, extra eyelid skin and heavy eyebrows for both functionally reconstructive and cosmetic reasons.Dr. Mahoney received his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and completed his ophthalmology residency at the Scheie Eye Institute, Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He then completed additional specialty training as an American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS) fellow at the Wilmer Eye Institute and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Mahoney joined the Wilmer faculty in 2012. He has held various administrative responsibilities and is currently the Vice Chair of Information Technology & Data Science for the Department of Ophthalmology.
