Duc Nguyen, M.D., is an orthopaedic surgeon with expertise in a variety of hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder conditions affecting children and adults. He specializes in treating patients with arthritis, dislocations, fractures, stiffness and other problems in the joints of the arm and hand, as well as biceps and triceps injuries. He is experienced in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and other surgical techniques.Dr. Nguyen believes in partnering with patients to help them understand their conditions and treatment options, so that together they can make an informed decision about the treatment plan. He focuses on evidence-based treatments, including cutting-edge surgical techniques, that help minimize impact on healthy tissues and improve recovery of function and return to activity. An assistant professor of orthopaedic surgery at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Nguyen completed his medical degree at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, followed by an orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital and Ryder Trauma Center. He trained as a hand and upper extremity orthopaedic fellow at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center under the mentorship of Mark Baratz and several other renowned faculty members. Dr. Nguyen’s research interests include basilar thumb arthritis, wrist dislocations and instability, and wrist and upper extremity fractures. He co-authored multiple publications on these topics and presented his research at national conferences. He is also involved in teaching and improving resident education with contributions to various textbooks.

Dr. Yasmin Akhtar is a Clinical Associate of Pediatrics at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in the department of Pediatric Endocrinology.Dr. Akhtar completed her undergraduate studies at Loyola University Chicago. She went to medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed her residency at Rush Medical Center in Chicago. She worked as a general pediatrician at a FQHC in Pittsburgh for 1 year then moved to Baltimore in 2014 where she completed her pediatric endocrinology fellowship at Johns Hopkins.After fellowship, she spent a year working for Kaiser Permanente as a general pediatrician and also caring for patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and endocrine diagnoses.Dr Akhtar’s clinical activities include both diabetes and pediatric endocrinology.

Dr. Carmel Bogle is a pediatric cardiologist seeing patients at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center’s locations in Annapolis, Columbia, Bethesda, Hagerstown and Frederick, Maryland in addition to telemedicine visits. Dr. Bogle specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric cardiology, pediatric cardiomyopathy, heart failure in children and pediatric heart transplantation. After completing her pediatric residency at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital at Stanford in 2016, Dr. Bogle completed her pediatric cardiology fellowship in 2019 at Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago. In 2020, she completed training in advanced cardiac therapies for heart failure, heart transplant, and ventricular assist devices at Boston Children’s Hospital.
