Winstar Farm encompasses approximately 1,450 acres. It is expected to include 10 barns, foaling complex, renovated stallion complex and training barn and research lab. The original 450 acres of land was once known as Silver Pond Farm. Silver Pond was settled in the late 1700s by the family of William Williams of Virginia. The Williams family was prominent figures in Woodford County, Ky., history. The farm remained in that family for more than150 years. The original farmhouse, smoke house, pond, some of the barns and the roads lined with Osage orange trees are on the National Historical Registry. The balance of the property that makes up Winstar Farm includes land from the Olsen, Johnson and Kinkead farms.
