I recently heard a Pastor from Seattle say something that impacted me. His church was doing a week of service projects for the community. He said these words: "we have been preaching for years and nobody's been listening. We have been serving for a week and everyone is now listening." The old adage is true. People do not care how much you know until they know how much you care. Jesus came to the world to serve humanity. He gave himself as a ransom for many. If we, the Church, are to represent Him well, then we must take on the form of a servant. Jesus was... read more The last few weeks have been an incredible time in my life. Jessi gave birth to our new little boy, Justice Samuel Gibson, on Sunday, February 21st! He's a looker. In the last few months of pregnancy there were some complications, but God was faithful. We have a perfectly healthy baby boy. We dedicated our new facility at 4810 Frederica Street on Feb. 19th. We have been working on this project for years. There has been a lot of blood, sweat, and tears poured out to see this thing come to pass. Sometimes at night I just come and look at it and am ov... read more One of the greatest revelations that a Christian can ever receive is one of service. Jesus said that, "the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." ( Matthew 20: 28 ) Our Lord came to serve the world. His life, message, and ministry was developed around caring for, loving, and healing others. If we really want people to see Christ flowing through us we will take on the form of a servant. We need to focus on what we can do for others and through this God will be glorified. Next week at River City Church we are se... read more

Greater Vision Baptist Church

Pastor Tim Russ grew up in a Christian home. As a child he was lead to the Lord by his father, Pastor Gayle Russ of Boeke Road Baptist Church in Evansville, Indiana. Pastor Russ faithfully grew up in church and eventually married his high school sweetheart, Marty ( McDonald ) in 1986. Four years later just after their first son, Andrew, was born Pastor Russ was called to preach. The following fall, the Russ's quit their jobs, sold their home and moved to Crowe Point, Indiana to attend Hyles-Anderson College. In June of 2005, Our Pastor faithfully followed the Lord's leading by accepting the call to pastor People's Baptist Church of Owensboro, Kentucky. People's Baptist Church was founded in 1947 and had been a great church in the past. At one time, many years ago, People's Baptist Church was considered to be the largest Independent Baptist Church in Western Kentucky. However, in recent years the church had seen a considerable decline ; still there were good people attending there who wanted to see God work again and were ready and more importantly, willing to see a change. Brother Russ, within a few short months, led the church to totally reorganize from within, adopted a new church charter and changed the name from People's Baptist Church to Greater Vision Baptist Church. Our name says it all Greater Vision Baptist Church is a Church with a vision for the future! says Pastor Russ. In just under a year we've seen God do some pretty amazing things. Over 200 people have made professions of faith and the active membership has nearly doubled. Once again Pastor Russ has put Owensboro on the map in Fundamental circles. Within the four years since his arrival Greater Vision Baptist Church has grown exponentially and has successfully undergone its first building project with the completion of both the lower and upper phases of the new auditorium. GVBC has enjoyed many, many wonderful services in its new facility and has seen tremendous blessings in its membership with people trusting Christ and being baptized regularly. Pastor Russ is truly a man with a vision and is faithfully following Gods plan for this Church and this community. We can count on many years of church growth and many opportunities to reach this city for Christ as we follow the vision, Greater Vision
