Christopher L. Johnsrude, M.D., is a pediatric electrophysiologist and pediatric cardiologist with Norton Children’s Heart Institute, affiliated with the UofL School of Medicine. Dr. Johnsrude earned his medical degree from East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, Greenville. He completed his internship and residency in pediatrics at Cincinnati’s Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Ohio, and fellowships in pediatric cardiology and pediatric electrophysiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Dr. Johnsrude also is a professor in the University of Louisville School of Medicine Department of Pediatrics Division of Pediatric Cardiology, and serves as director of the pediatric and adult congenital cardiology arrhythmia service for Norton Children’s Heart Institute. He is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric cardiology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and American College of Cardiology. His areas of interest include cardiac arrhythmias in children and adults with congenital heart disease, electrophysiology studies, 3D heart mapping, catheter ablation, pacemakers and cardioverter defibrillators, and surgical management of arrhythmias.

Dr. Marshall received his medical degree from Vanderbilt University in 1983 and completed a pediatric residency there in 1986. He then went to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for fellowship training in infectious diseases. In 1989, he joined the University of Louisville Department of Pediatrics, where he is now Professor of Pediatrics and Chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases. In 2018, Dr. Marshall received the Plotkin Lecture in Vaccinology Award from the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society for “contributions to the field of vaccinology or areas of related science that have impacted the lives of children and the specific area of pediatric infectious diseases.” Under Dr. Marshall’s leadership, the Division of Pediatric Infectious Diseases has repeatedly been recognized for excellence in teaching and patient care. Dr. Marshall is a member of numerous academic societies and has served in several national leadership positions. He is credited with over 190 publications and is best known for his work in vaccine development, advocacy, and education. Dr. Marshall is the author of The Vaccine Handbook: A Practical Guide for Clinicians (also known as The Purple Book), now in its 9th edition and available through a free app for iOS devices.
