Konza Prairie Biological Station (KPBS) is a 3,487-hectare native tallgrass prairie preserve located in the Flint Hills of northeastern Kansas, jointly owned by The Nature Conservancy and Kansas State University. Established in 1971, KPBS serves as a field research station dedicated to long-term ecological research, education, and prairie conservation, making it a unique outdoor laboratory for studying diverse biological and environmental processes.
The station retains much of its native characteristics, with the majority of its landscape never plowed, thus representing one of the largest remaining areas of unplowed tallgrass prairie in North America. Research conducted at KPBS has garnered over $100 million in grants, resulting in more than 2,000 scientific papers and 300 graduate theses, fostering collaboration among scientists and students globally.
