Meriden Machine Shop is a manufacturer of precision machined parts and components. The company has not only developed a rapport with the farming and industrial communities, but has earned a reputation for precision and craftsmanship. In 1977, Jim Surritt was a 36-year-old machinist working for Goodyear in Topeka, Kan. Intending on opening a garage workshop after retirement, Surritt began acquiring machinery and equipment and storing it in his garage. The proposed retirement came sooner than expected and in 1980, he and his wife converted their overflowing garage into a functional machine shop. Developing a solid clientele from the local farming and business community, Meriden Machine Shop has grown and thrived. In 1993, Meriden Machine Shop incorporated and purchased a larger building. After extensive renovations and expansions, the available floor space went from 1,100 square feet to 6,400 square feet.
