Established in 1957, Exceptional Persons is a nonprofit agency that works for people who suffer from developmental disabilities and families with child care needs. The agency provides residential and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. Exceptional Persons conducts several rehabilitation activities, including exercise and cooking sessions and outdoor trips. The agency provides various recreational opportunities, such as arts and crafts sessions, sports activities and music classes. Exceptional Persons also offers the Child and Adult Care Food Program, which provides financial resources to child care homes to assure that the children are offered nutritionally balanced snacks and meals. The agency provides employment opportunities in the areas of vacuuming, polishing, trimming and mowing.

Columbus High School a Catholic educational center that offers a variety of extracurricular and educational programs to students. The school serves the needs of more than 300 students in grades nine through 12. It has various departments, such as academics, sports, religion, guidance and student resources. Its academic programs include business education, computer science, English, family and consumer science, industrial technology, math, science and social studies. It also offers foreign language classes in Spanish. The school has a resource room that organizes field trips, and audiovisual lessons and computer-assisted instruction programs. It organizes direct instruction in learning strategies, study skills, career planning, thinking skills, problem solving, decision making and basic academic skills. The organization is located in Waterloo, Iowa.
