Ruby Van Meter School

Ruby Van Meter School is a part of Des Moines Public Schools. It is a special school that serves more than 230 students with physical, social and emotional disorders. It serves students from ages 12 to 21. The school employs more than 90 teachers and specialists in the areas of social work, communication, health, occupational therapy, and hearing and vision impairments. It offers a prevocational program that imparts work habits, telephone etiquette and money skills in middle school-aged children. The school also offers a vocational program that focuses on interview and grooming skills, punctuality and job applications handling for children from ages 16 to 21. In addition, Ruby Van Meter School provides a community education program to prepare its students to function independently and productively. The school is located in Des Moines, Iowa.
