Hockenberg Newburgh Sales began its business in the food industry in 1930 as Hockenberg Rubin. As one of the first companies to recognize the necessity of specialization by department, Hockenberg Rubin added the frozen food department to grocery in 1954, followed four years later by the general merchandise/health & beauty care division. Hockenberg Rubin merged with Newburgh Brokerage Company in 1993 to become the Hockenberg Newburgh Sales and Marketing Team. In 1995,GBA joined Hockenberg Newburgh Sales and Marketing. This expanded combination created a major marketing vehicle to present the confectionery business to the upper Midwest. 1995 also saw the merger of Benolken Brokerage into Hockenberg Newburgh Sales and Marketing. This consolidation established Hockenberg Newburgh as the major foodservice broker in the Iowa and Nebraska Markets.
