Listen Hear

Listen Hear is a sound art project by Big Car located in Indianapolis, IN. Initially, it was a physical space at Shelby St., transitioning to a radio station at 99.1WQRT LP and online streaming. This project aims to showcase sound as an art form, emphasizing the significance of our daily soundscape and engaging audiences with deep listening techniques.

Starting in 2014, Listen Hear offered experimental sound art experiences and live performances at its original location in Lafayette Place strip mall. Later, it moved to a building on Shelby Street, hosting over 150 exhibits and sound-related events. Even after closing its physical space, Listen Hear continues as a community radio station broadcasting art and cultural content.

By providing a platform for sound artists and experimental musicians, Listen Hear facilitates exposure and exhibition opportunities for underrepresented art forms. Through interactive exhibitions and collaborative projects, the project introduces sound art to a diverse audience, encouraging individuals to develop their listening practices and appreciate the role sound plays in shaping our environment.
