The Wheeling Fire Department is a full-service organization that provides fire suppression, prevention and investigation services. It also offers hazard mitigation, public education, and emergency medical treatment and transportation services. The Wheeling Fire Department serves approximately 40,000 residents in an area of over 10 square miles. It provides aircraft rescue and fire fighting services for Chicago Executive Airport. The department operates several fire stations and maintains a staff of more than 60 firefighters. The Wheeling Fire Department is regularly evaluated by the Insurance Services Organization. The department is governed by the Village of Wheeling in Illinois. The village operates public health, economic development, engineering, police, public works, and finance and administration departments.
