Lewis & Clark State Historic Site interprets Camp River Dubois and Illinois’s role in the famous Lewis & Clark Expedition with an interpretive center, guided tours, educational programming, and reconstructed winter camp. Visitors and school groups come to learn about the Corps of Discovery expedition that connected the United States from sea to sea. Visitors also get the opportunity to see how the nearby frontier settlers lived and interacted during the early 19th Century. Annual programs at Lewis & Clark State Historic Site, including Education Day, Point of Departure Celebration, Arrival Event, and Junior Explorer Camp, help visitors experience the history and context of the Lewis & Clark Expedition. The Lewis & Clark State Historic Site is administered by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources – Historic Preservation Division. The Lewis and Clark Society of America operates the Store of Discovery and provides invaluable support to the site.
