Historical Maalaea General Store & Restaurant, established in 1910, holds a unique historical significance. Operated by Japanese families for 90 years, the store's history intertwines with themes rarely explored in Hawaii, including Japanese internment, post-war resettlement, and the development of Hawaiian and Japanese fisheries and commerce. Originally serving workers at a nearby Wailuku Sugar Company camp. The store closed in 2005, and after six years of closure, and an extensive renovation, we transformed into a cafe, deli, retail, grocery store, and bar. Recognized with awards, We serve a variety of fresh, local and continental food, including ample plant-based and vegan choices. Across from the Coast Guard, and just off the main highway connecting Lahaina and West Maui to East Maui, Ma’alaea is the hub of Maui ocean events. Activities include sport fishing, whale watching, snorkeling cruises, dinner cruises, restaurants, shopping, an aquarium, and more.
