Matthew Lufburrow was born in Middletown, N.J. in 1787. He came to Savannah as a Master Mason and a Master Builder circa 1815. He did much work in Savannah. Two of his homes, rated exceptional by Historic Savannah, are still standing. He superintended the U.S. Custom House for John Norris, the architect. Today, Lufburrow, Inc continues that fine tradition. The present day company. was founded in 1959 by Albert B. Lufburrow, who is still fully active in the company. The company was an outgrowth of Lufburrow Realty Co, which was founded by Thomas W. Lufburrow in 1923.
