Peter A. Abdelmalik, M.D., Ph.D., is a board-certified neurologist and director of inpatient general neurology at Baptist Health Brain & Spine Care. He specializes in the acute care of hospitalized patients with neurological conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord and nerves. After earning his Ph.D. in neurophysiology/neuropharmacology at the University of Toronto, Dr. Abdelmalik earned his medical degree at St. George’s University School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. His clinical training includes an internal medicine internship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, a neurology residency at Jefferson Hospital for Neuroscience and a neurocritical care fellowship at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Abdelmalik has published his research in medical journals and books and presented to his peers at scientific symposiums. He is an editorial board member for several medical publications and a member of numerous professional societies. Dr. Abdelmalik is committed to supporting patients and their families through primary brain injury, including hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke, trauma, seizures and metabolic assaults. He employs a multidisciplinary treatment approach that focuses on immediate medical stabilization, prevention of secondary injury, psychological support and rehabilitation. When he is not treating patients, Dr. Abdelmalik enjoys spending time with his family, conducting research, engaging in the community, learning piano and Spanish, traveling and doing outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, snorkeling and diving.
