PBU is responsible for the delivery of safe drinking water, wastewater treatment and infrastructure improvement. Raw water for the Palm Bay Utility Department water treatment plant is primarily derived from a shallow aquifer well field located east of Interstate 95. The shallow aquifer well field was originally developed in the immediate vicinity of the water treatment plant site. The total installed raw water pumping capacity is approximately 5,000 gallons per minute or 7.2 million gallons per day. The actual quantity of water that can be withdrawn on a safe yield basis is estimated to be approximately 6 million gallons per day on a maximum day basis.
