These low-volume practices personalize care and redirect the physician's energy to the patient and their needs. In today's "managed care world", physicians' are often times required to be responsible for 5 to 6 thousand patients. This high-volume patient load results in long waits for appointments, limited time for physicians to spend with patients and noted deficiencies in patient care. MMP's have a limited number of patients, allowing physicians to provide personalized medical care for each patient with focus on disease prevention and wellness. The payment of an annual membership fee allows the practice to limit the number of patients and provide this level of service, without being completely dependent upon managed care reimbursement.CooperativeMed was founded by Dr. Michael O eal in 2002. Despite widespread caution and doubt the founding physician successfully launched his Membership Medical Practice immediately upon completion of residency training, the first in the nation started without pre-existing patients and with minimum capital.To address the tremendous growth potential of MMP's, CooperativeMed was formed and a sound management team assembled. CooperativeMed will be responsible for developing and maintaining clinics in regional and eventually national markets throughout North America.
