The U.S. Coast Guard Academy offers higher education programs to more than 900 students in New London in Connecticut. The academy provides a four-year bachelor s degree program. It offers courses in engineering, math and science. The academy manages a library that houses more than 120,000 volumes and over 500 periodicals. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy also provides athletic activities in baseball, basketball, cross-country, football and volleyball. The academy operates boxing, genesis and Asian Pacific American clubs. It manages the Center for Advanced Studies, which was established in 1990. The academy operates the Cadet Writing and Reading Center, which offers programs in speaking. The U.S. Coast Guard Academy manages humanities and management departments.

The mission of the United States Naval Reserve is to provide mission-capable units and individuals to the Navy s active duty component throughout the full range of operations during peacetime and war. The Navy Reserve represents approximately 20 percent of the Navy s total assets. The Naval Reserve Force consists of the Ready Reserve, the Standby Reserve and the Retired Reserve.
