From a young age Dr. Mina Owlia knew she wanted to be a physician. She was drawn to the field of noninvasive cardiology because it enables her to help patients with a full spectrum of cardiovascular issues. Her clinical expertise includes the management of complex coronary artery disease, heart failure, valvular disease and preventive cardiology. At Stamford Health, Dr. Owlia is involved in noninvasive cardiology patient care and cardiovascular imaging techniques including nuclear perfusion, vascular ultrasound and echocardiography. She performs 3D transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) and transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) for structural heart disease and valve procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and Watchman (left atrial appendage closure for atrial fibrillation). He also has an interest in other neurosurgical conditions including brain and spine tumors, Chiari malformations, hydrocephalus, trigeminal neuralgia, hemifacial spasm, and degenerative spine conditions. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Tufts Medical Center. He subsequently completed a fellowship in cerebrovascular and endovascular neurosurgery at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, where he also served as an attending physician and Instructor in Neurosurgery at Harvard Medical School. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Columbia University Irving Medical Center. His passion for cerebrovascular disease took root early in residency when he witnessed how excellent quality care can make a difference in the lives of patients with aneurysms, vascular malformations, and stroke. He believes that having a broad training background allows him to counsel patients on the best treatment options and alternatives. Outside of medicine, he is an avid runner and also enjoys playing jazz piano and reading.
