Elizabeth Gaary

Dr. Richard Russell Culver was certified by the American Board of Radiology in 2015, Dr. Culver received his medical degree from St. George’s University in 2006. He completed his internship at Morristown Memorial Hospital in 2011 and his residency in diagnostic radiology at Norwalk Hospital, in affiliation with Yale University Medical Center, in 2015. He served as chief resident from 2013 through 2015 and then proceeded to his fellowship in neuroradiology at Yale University Medical Center, where he was co-chief fellow in 2016. Dr. Culver is the former chief of neuroradiology at Norwalk Hospital where he served on staff from 2016 through 2021. In addition, to neuroradiology Dr. Culver’s additional areas of interest and experience includemammography and women’s imaging including breast biopsies and procedures as an MQSA-certified breast imager as well as body imaging, MRI, and general diagnostic radiology.  He is now serving on staff at Stamford Health as of April 2021 as the vice chairman of radiology. Dr. Culver has been honored as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2020.

Dr. Ravi Thakur is a board-certified radiologist and director of body imaging. Dr. Thakur earned his Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from Amherst College, Amherst, Massachusetts and was awarded his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine, Charlottesville, Virginia in 1999. After a transitional internship year at Saint Vincent's Hospital, New York, New York, Dr. Thakur was a resident in diagnostic radiology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, Massachusetts (2000-2002) and at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center (2002-2004). Dr. Thakur was elected to serve as chief resident in 2003. Dr. Thakur received his fellowship training in body MRI at New York University (NYU) Medical Center in 2004-2005. Dr. Thakur's clinical expertise is in MRI and cross-sectional body imaging. He interprets a variety of studies (MRI, CT, PET-CT, and ultrasound) involving the chest, abdomen, pelvis, and cardiovascular system. Dr. Thakur achieved Board Certification in Diagnostic Radiology from the American Board of Radiology in June 2004. Before returning to Stamford Health in 2023, Dr. Thakur was an assistant professor of radiology at Weill Cornell Medical College and assistant attending radiologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Campus from 2011 to 2023. Prior to that, he was a partner at Stamford Radiological Associates (2005-2011). He served as the interim chair of the department of radiology at Stamford Health from March 2009 to June 2011 and was named to "Connecticut Magazine Top Doctors" in 2010 and 2011.

Dr. Michael Cai is a board-certified diagnostic radiologist with specialized expertise in neuroradiology, currently practicing at Stamford Health. He brings a deep commitment to precision medicine and workflow optimization, with a clinical focus on advanced imaging techniques across neurological and body systems. Dr. Cai completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia, followed by residency training in diagnostic radiology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Icahn School of Medicine. He went on to complete a dedicated fellowship in neuroradiology at Mount Sinai, refining his skills in advanced brain, spine, and head and neck imaging. A Roy Vagelos Scholar at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Cai graduated magna cum laude with a concentration in biochemistry. His academic and clinical journey reflects a longstanding dedication to scientific rigor and patient-centered care. Dr. Cai has held several key leadership roles, including serving as stroke and neuroradiology quality improvement champion at Saint Francis Hospital and as the AI liaison and champion for Empire State Radiology, where he helped integrate emerging technologies to enhance radiology workflows and diagnostic accuracy. He also has additional training through the American College of Radiology in prostate MRI interpretation, underscoring his versatility in both outpatient body imaging and neuroimaging. With a passion for innovation in clinical practice, Dr. Cai actively seeks to improve operational efficiency and diagnostic excellence through evidence-based technology and collaborative quality improvement initiatives.
