Apartment Investment and Management Company is an owner and operator of apartment communities, with nearly 1,425 communities and almost 250,000 units. Operating as a real estate investment trust, the company engages in the acquisition, ownership, management and redevelopment of apartment communities in 47 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. The company owns a broad range of apartment communities, including conventional, affordable and university communities. Its University Communities division was established to build a national portfolio of student residences at leading universities. The division is actively acquiring multi-family and residence hall properties both on its own, through joint ventures and in partnership with major universities. Apartment Investment has 25 regional operating centers and is headquartered in Denver. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol AIV.
