Derek is a member of the American Institute of Architects. About Derek Wee Derek Wee, AIA is an architect practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area. He has worked in the offices of Skidmore Owings & Merrill (SOM), New York and San Francisco, as well as other firms in the Bay Area. His portfolio includes a broad range of building types, including high-rise and multi-family residential, commercial and transportation projects. With SOM, he was involved in the design of the International Airport Terminal in the Philippines, the JFK Airport Light Rail System Competition in New York, the Park View Beijing Residential Towers in China as well as a Resort Hotel Master Plan in Kuwait. Prior to launching his own practice, under the Hayes Group Architects, Derek was the project designer for the Palo Alto headquarters of the IDEO corporation, the leading product design firm in the US. Derek was also with the San Francisco firm of Team 7 International, where he worked on several built projects in the Far East, including a residential villa development & an industrial park in Shanghai, China, as well as design proposals for a Cultural Center in Yantai China. He has also consulted with the CW Group of San Francisco to design concept proposals for a Mediterranean Resort Master Plan and a Service Apartment in Lebanon. Derek received his Master of Architecture at the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University, Cambridge Massachusetts. After his youthful years of travel & adventure around the country and the world, Derek has settled down in San Mateo California with his wife, where he enjoys the natural beauty & cultural diversity of a land he calls home.
