History

In the early 1990's while I was still working at a broker/dealer firm, I had a client who was paying me a fee to manage his portfolio. My client didn't mind paying a fee when his portfolio was really performing, but, understandably, he greatly disliked the idea of paying any fee, if his portfolio didn't grow. That's when the idea came to my mind - what if I could offer portfolio management with a fee that matched the performance of the portfolio. Hence, I created Holt Investment Advisors in 1995 completely on the idea of offering qualified clients a fee-based-on-performance. As far as I know, I was first to offer a fee-only, based on performance service to private clients and we have been doing it ever since. I found that managing portfolios for a fee-based-on-performance had an added benefit: my clients didn't need to second guess my investment management decisions because they knew that it was in my best interest to serve their best interest. It put us uniquely on the same team!
