In 1867 Joseph Welch created Welch's Big Trees Resort, which is where the current old-growth redwood grove stands. So glad we came! Arrived before visitor center opened so we headed into the short hike. It was an easy stroll, cool on a late June. Suitable for anyone who can move, can even be done in sandals....
