Founded in 1939, Operating Engineers Local Union 3 is one of the largest construction trades locals in the United States. The union represents the interests of people who build and protect. It has a staff of more than 41,000 members who work as heavy-equipment operators and construction workers. The union also represents public employees, such as maintenance workers and police officers. Operating Engineers Local Union 3 offers apprentice-level training for construction professionals. It covers area, such as Northern California, northern Nevada, Hawaii and Utah. Four college scholarships are awarded to sons, daughters, stepchildren and foster children of Local 3 members. Operating Engineers Local Union 3 is located in Rancho Murrieta, Calif.
