Fern Canyon, located within Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, features a stunning one-mile level trail that meanders alongside Home Creek, which has carved a dramatic canyon nearly 50 to 80 feet deep over time. The canyon walls are adorned with a rich array of lush ferns and other moisture-loving plants, creating a captivating environment that sparkles with tiny droplets of moisture on sunny days.
Due to its popularity, California State Parks and the National Park Service now require day-use permits to access both Gold Bluffs Beach and Fern Canyon from May 15th to September 15th, with reservations not needed from September 16th to May 14th. Visitors can easily apply for permits through the Redwood Parks Conservancy to experience this remarkable natural wonder.
