Norman, Fox & Co. was formed in 1971 as a partnership between Herb Norman and the late Fred Fox. Norman and Fox worked many years for the 'Chemicals for Industry' division of Swift & Company (later Esmark). They started Norman, Fox & Co. when Esmark discontinued the division following severe labor and operating difficulties at the major production facility in Hammond, Ind. In 1972, the partnership purchased Esmark s industrial soap manufacturing equipment in Vernon, Calif., and moved to its present site in Los Angeles. In 1976 Norman, Fox & Co. decided to add additional equipment to expand its manufacturing capabilities. This equipment included a reactor for making alkanolamides and esters, liquid blending and drum filling equipment, additional storage tanks, expanded warehousing and material handling facilities and transportation equipment for local deliveries. From its inception, the company attracted a number of major national chemical companies as principals for its distribution operations. Norman s key principals include Shell Chemical Company, GE Silicones, Geo. Pfau s Sons Co., R tgers Organics, Tomah Products, Akzo Nobel, Uniqema North America Division of Imperial Chemical Industries, Lyondell Petrochemical Company, Burlington Chemical and Lonza Group. Besides the branded products of these companies, Norman, Fox & Co. distributes and resells many related materials manufactured to exacting specifications under its own Norfox trade name.
