Norton Sound Health Corporation was one of the first Native American health organizations in the country to assume complete responsibility for medical care of the people it serves. The corporation was founded to serve the health care needs of the Inupiat, Siberian Yupik and Yup'ik people of the Bering Strait region of northwest Alaska. Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome, the only Alaska bush community with a road system, is operated by Norton Sound Health Corporation.
