The City of Akutan, in partnership with the Aleutians East Borough and the Army Corps of Engineers, has undertaken the construction of a new boat harbor in Akutan, Alaska. Situated on Akutan Island, surrounded by the abundant fishing grounds of the Bering Sea, this project aims to provide a 12-acre mooring basin and associated uplands to support local commercial fishermen and marine industries, while ensuring the protection of the environment.

Once completed, this harbor development will offer mooring for up to 57 large fishing vessels, serve as a safe haven for disabled craft, and enhance the community's transportation network. Akutan Island is also home to Trident Seafoods, the largest land-based frozen seafood processor in North America, further highlighting the significance of this project for the local economy and fishing industry.
