A tavern was called a cabaret during Napoleon, and of the twelve categories number twelve (douze in French) was the roughest class without rules. Sitting at Cabaret Douze on the old Graanmarkt, you overlook the Stokstraat, now the most expensive street in Maastricht, once a lively, wild street full of traders and brothels. Our place exudes history, and we want to see that combination of history and activity reflected in our business. We call ourselves an gastrobar, but Cabaret Douze cannot really be classified under one name. Whether you come for coffee with cake, read the local newspaper, play a game of chess, have a drink with friends, drink a good glass of wine, taste an unknown specialty beer or celebrate your relationship with your partner in a gastronomic way, anything is possible. And just like before, all grades and positions are welcome. The threshold is low, the service high. Coming in is coming back, because the atmosphere that makes Cabaret Douze unique is nowhere else.
