32/34 Via Mattarana
Verona 37132
The peculiar name of Villa "La Mattarana" derives from that of an abbess of the thirteenth century: "Mater Anna". The present building dates back to 1400, while the frescoes on its inside walls and the noble chapel date back to the sixteenth century (school of Paolo Caliari, known as the "Veronese"). Worth noticing is the Hall of the Emperors, whose ceiling, frescoed with grotesque decorations, is the work of Bernardino India, who collaborated with Andrea Palladio. The Villa rent out seven halls with beautiful ancient fresco, a big colonnade, a wine cellar and a small chapel, all surrounded by a romantic Italian garden.
