Wheeldale Roman Road

Wheeldale is an enigmatic mile-long stretch of ancient road amid wild and beautiful moorland. The road is probably Roman but possibly later or earlier, and still has its hard core and drainage ditches. Open any reasonable time during day light hours. Parking: It is possible to park on the roadside, but please take care. Please be aware: Farm livestock is likely to be present and there are uneven surfaces.
