Aalborg 9000
The Royal Duty Chamber in Aalborg was designed by architect Hack Kampmann and built in 1902. Among other buildings, Hack Kampmann was also the architect behind Marselisborg castle, the theatre in Aarhus and the police station in Copenhagen. In recent years, the Royal Taxhouse has gone through a great restoration and today the building appears as it originally did. In 2006, the building was awarded a prize by the municipality for the beautiful and extensive restoration of one of the old and valuable buildings in Aalborg. The building is an example of the Danish romantic style with motives from the renaissance. Among other details, the style is seen in the symmetrical facade with the stately stairs. Furthermore, many unique details can be seen in the masonry and the eaves. The exact place itself is also historical, as this was the outlet of the old "Osterå", which was dug out to make it easier for ships to sail up from the Limfjord and trade. This was the reason why the Royal Duty Chamber was perfectly situated to welcome ships that wished to trade in Aalborg. Just outside The Royal Toll Chamber at Toldbodsplads is Denmarks first musical fountain, which opened in 2007. Every day during the summer until week 42, people in Aalborg can enjoy this beautiful fountain which throws water in the air at different levels. Four times a day - at 12, 15, 18 and 21 - you will hear an overture from Georg Friedrich Händels Water Music coming from the fountain. This music will play in around 3 minutes.
