The Military History Museum of the Bundeswehr is one of the most significant history museums in Europe. The museum shows the history of war, violence and the military from various, often unexpected points of view. The focus is on the human experience who use or suffer violence. After a period of redesign, the museum reopened in 2011 with a spectacular new extension designed by architect Daniel Libeskind: a wedge out of concrete and steel cutting through the historical building. It creates new spaces and visual axes that challenge traditional perspectives. The wedge symbolises a new way of dealing with Germany’s military history and reminds the viewers of the bombing of Dresden during World War II.
